I just now joined this message board. I live in Northern Michigan and we have been to the seminar in Port Huron. We have our doctor's appointment 2/22 and hope to get a surgery date at that time. We means my husband and I. We are both going to have the surgery done. I'm anxious to get in here and become acquainted with you all and to read through the threads.

That's great that you're doing it together. Built in support bigtime. How did you choose your doc?

I went online and found the Center of Excellence in Port Huron. Figured that would be a good place with an award like that!!

It'll be nice to do it together I'm sure. Plus it helps not to have someone sitting besodes you eating while you're drinking chicken broth..my sister did that to me the other day and I wanted to jump her and take the pizza!! It was awful..she told me to just chew on a piece..itd make me feel better...all I could think ok was running with that pizza..HAHA..So Im sure that going at it together will be nice

It really will be. And the surgeon said they would do both of us the same day so that's kewl too.

Sure hope we get approval from the insurance company in a timely fashion. We're jumping through the hoops now.

Welcome!! It is good that you guys are going to do it together. My huny is supportive, but he doesn’t 100% agree with the surgery.

My approval took approx 3 weeks from the insurance. I understand that this is not a long time to wait, so I wish a speedy decision for you as well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
