Curious about Alcohol

Recommended Posts

I don't drink alcohol regularly but might have half glass champagne once every few months. Is it possible ? If not - is it due to the fizz or the alcohol or both? It won't bother me if I never drink again!

Funny how I can be do obsessed with food items but not alcohol!

The biggest thing i was told about alcohol is it will affect us differently due to the rerouting of the intestines. So one drink might get you completely drunk. I have known many people that still drink on occasion and due fine they just have to be careful. The other issue is that you don't want a transfer addiction. That is something else they warn everyone about since we no longer are addicted to food we might be addicted to something else ie alcohol.

The fizz in the champagne might affect you- I would definitely run scenarios by your doctor.

For your first time drinking after surgery make sure you are with trusted friends. One drink and I was feeling very happy. All though the feeling does not last long at all, but is very intense. Only one drink made me hurt in my pouch, but I think it was the liqueur used. It was a Cosmo on my birthday. I have had champagne since the surgery at a Christmas party and had no issues. Each doctor is different so make sure your doc says it is ok. Mine said it was fine.

It is true that a lot of people transfer addiction and once I had my first drink I completely understood why. The feeling is immediate and very satisfying. So be careful!

I have a co-worker that had RNY and we went on a outing to a baseball game after work. We were all drinking, but this guy was so drunk. He lost his car, he lives a hour away he had to be driven home.

Unfortunatly, the next time the guys went out without us it happened again. it began to cause issues in his marriage because he would be extremly intoxicated and that was from beer.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
