Traveling with the band?

Recommended Posts

Wish I had info for you, I just do car travel since being banded because I have not needed to fly yet, I love to travel. I keep a zipper bag with a mix of various nuts and corn bran Cereal and lots of bottles of Water. I know that getting too hungry is bad for me, I tend to take the first bite too quicklly and you know the knot that happens then. I think nuts are good, especially walnuts as they can really satisfy hunger and they have good Omega oils. Be carefull though, too many can add the calories quickly!

I travel alot. Sometimes we do fast food and it's a struggle but manageable. I've ordered chicken sandwichs and cut it up with a fork but definately no bun. I've also done Arby's and just eat the meat. Fries go down easily for me so I make sure I order a sandwich and bottled Water NO FRIES. I also snack on cashews but yep the calories add up, so not alot. It's much easier to go to a real sit down restaurant and get something decent then struggle with choices at fast food. You can do it.

Take care, Kelley

I keep a little insulated bag packed and ready to grab and go at all times.....we live 40 miles from civilization so even a quick trip to the store can present a food challenge if I'm not prepared. I keep bottled water/tea,RTD Protein cans, Protein Bars, poptop tuna, SF licorice, 1-oz pkgs of nuts, etc. Even if we decide to eat out while in town, I always have a protein snack before we go in so that I won't be so hungry and be tempted to take risks with food I don't dare eat in public (chicken, for instance). And when we eat out, I always have a warm drink before eating (hot tea usually) so my band will be loose enough for me to eat comfortably.

The one thing that no one else mentioned is about the time to eat. I find that if I am rushing or trying to eat in the car, I can run into real trouble. I always make sure to block off plenty of time to eat so I can go slow. If I go to fast I can get in the PB zone and that's no good.

Don't rush when you have a bite to eat. Take your time and go slow.

I travel all the time for business and carry a store with me! When we stop we go to a retaurant/ diner where I get something decent, or if fast food has to happen...... taco bell beef burrito supreme sucks right out of its tortilla. In and out you can order your burger Protein style and they will make it wrapped in lettuce with no bun it is good! Fries go down great they are evil, I really have to use will power to stay away from them!

I always have on me some or all of these when I leave on a trip:

Luna Bars

nuts

fruit

avacado

string cheese

While I am on the road sometimes these work as a meal. I used to travel with my magic bullet till I broke it and had Protein Shakes in the hotel, I loved it and need a new one!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
