Sleep Apnea On Cpap!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else out there have sleep apnea and sleep with a cpap machine?

How long did it take you to lose enough weight to ditch the breathing machine?

I have one. They had me using it in the hospital, but once I came home, I pretty much stopped using it. Now, I'm down 40# in 4 weeks, and that most likely helps, but as far as I'm concerned, I don't need it.

I will check with my PCP and get the final ok to be done, sine I have sleep apnea & tend to stop breathing at night... I don't want to create additional problems!

I am almost identical. I had to use my cpap cuz it was so bad. I used it at first postop but soon stopped. Im at 41 pounds lost at almost a month. Its scary because I breathe sooooo much better! And I can sleep on my belly again!

According to my sleep doc it depends what kind if sleep apnea you have. I cant remember what type i have and I haven't had surgery YET but according to him, losing weight can alleviate it but won't cure it. He said he doesn't even bother telling older individuals to try losing weight to get off the machine bc it doesn't change anything.

And oh my, do I miss sleeping on my belly. Don't know what you have Til it's gone lol

Hi King Richard,

I will check to see what type of sleep apnea I had/have...

And, yep, belly sleeper too... Missing it as well.

Certainly don't want to have to use the machine again tho!

Funny thing... I was in a rental situation for the machine with my insurance co., and the very month that I had my surgery was the last month of rental! I now own my very own sleep apnea machine, with a balance of $700.00 that my insurance plan didn't cover!

And I will most likely never use it again.

Can't sell it, cause it is programmed to my sleep needs.

Nice, huh?

Maybe I'll search Pintrest & see if I can make something out of it!!

Haha

I found that I have obstructive sleep apnea. That's the kind that weight loss can alleviate, but not totally cure. So, I'm 26 and if I lost weight I would probably stop needing it. But at some point when im older ill have to get back on it. For now though, I get excited about sleeping with it. Positive reinforcements at its finest haha

I actually liked mine, in the beginning. Finally, I was getting much needed sleep at night!

Now, I'm happy without it. Yet, I might need it later on. I see my PCP tomorrow, I'll have to find out what kind of sleep apnea I have.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
