To All New York Bandster-PLEASE READ!

Recommended Posts

Hi there my name is Lisa and I was banded on June 13th,2006. I had my surgery at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, Westchester County by Dr. Daniel Davis. Iam now 7+ months out and I have lost 55 pounds since June with only one fill in October of 1cc in my band.

Iam a member of the June Bandster, but no one in the group there is from New York.

So.... Iam am offically starting my own thread or so called group; THE NEW YORK BANDSTERS!

The only requirement is that you have been banded and are from New York.

I want to hear from you: talk about your pre-op and post-op experience, how you are doing, voice your opinion, vent, blow off steam and all that jazz-lol.

I also want to set up a once a week chat so we can all meet and talk other than posting in here.

Maybe if we live close some can even meet and get in person support.

There are no New York support threads in here so lets start one here!

Let me hear from you the Big Apple!

Lisa

:) Hi there! Iam Lisa aka LeeceLove 70. I was banded on June 13.2006

Let me tell you about me:

My birthday is Jan 6, 1970 (hence the 70 in the username). I have been married to my hubby for 4 1/2 years and Have an adorable 4 years old son Andrew? I was born and raised in New York.( I live in the North East Bronx- Country Club Section)

My hobbies are reading books -- Barnes and Nobles is getting rich with me -lol

I love going to concerts - The best I saw recently was Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in February-he did 3 hours non stop!

I have been fat since I was 5 years old and growing up I was on every diet there was. I never made lifetime on Weight Watchers but I sure did spend enough over the years to get lifetime membership!

I even tried Overeaters Anonymous a few times for my eating disorder of Compulsive Overeating. The most I lost was 35 pounds on OA's HOW program.

I also suffer from depression and I went through a breakdown in June of 2005 after my best-friend of over 10 years decided to end our friendship from pressure and abuse she was suffering from her husband. ( We reconnected in March of 2006 and she has been super supportive to me in every aspect)

I admitted myself to a hospital for a week and got put on medication and received help for my depression.

I was diagnosed as Bipolar 2 in 2006 after two years of assumptions and lost of different medications.

Iam doing really well now with therapy and ndw medication.

A year to the date that I was hospitalized I had my LapBand surgery and it was the best thing I ever did for myself!

I have regained my life, my self-esteem and self-respect! My depression is under control and I see my therapist every other week and doctor once a month.

Iam not perfect, but Iam progressing!

I have lost 55 pounds with my LapBand with one fill of 1cc in October 0f 2006.

I look forward to making new friendships with each and every one of you.

Love and hugs,

Lisa aka Leecelove70:kiss2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
