Spreading The Word

I am sitting at the texas state fair and notice people walking around that would benefit from RNY. Now that I have gone through this I feel like going up to people and spreading the word of RNY. I know I would have gotten upset if someone had said anything to me, but my entire outlook on life has changed. Has anyone had this feeling? Did you actually go up to people?

I understand what u feel. I wouldn't go up to people unless I knew them but people that know. Yes! I am so happy to tell them of my experience altho I'm only 3 weeks post op. I also write a blog on my fb.

I tell everyone. It has been that life changing. Most that can benefit are receptive.... to my face.. lol!!!

Omg i feel same way but i feel it would be rude to tell people unless they asked. Im 3 weeks post op

I would never go up to someone because I'm sure they're aware of it and it would probably ruin their day, but I know exactly what you're talking about. I think that all the time

what surgeons have you guys used in the Metroplex I'm having a hard time finding 1 I like.... I would love to meet up with you guys this weekend if we can I have so many questions and thoughts

I have never said to anyone that they needed WLS. I tell everyone that I have had it now, but prior to doing this I was told by a woman in a shoe store that she had done it and it changed her life. It made me feel a little bad about myself, but it make me think about having surgery.

I find myself getting concerned with my heavy friends/family who severely over eat. I have a friend who is heavy and I see how much he eats and it scares me. But I don't know if I would tell him to go get surgery.

I looked at Baylor in grapevine and dr wade barker. I went with dr barker. I have heard negative things about dr Kim.

Dr barkers officer staff can be a little frustrating, but the team of doctors is great. I had to call their after hours phone and it was dr barker that called me back. Dr Thompson is the aftercare doctor and he is wonderful .

ohh my God I went to doctor Kim 4 * and I've had four bad experiences I kept thinking I would have a good 1 and maybe its time they were just busy and didn't have very much time to give me today... I am set up to see Nicholson on Monday... I want a good all around program that's going to have a lot of support for me and a lot of teaching n educating for me to help get me through this because I really have no support for this.... and all I know how to do is make poor food choices I really am clueless and I don't feel I really know what I'm getting myself into long term wise.... or can I really give up macaroni and cheese and fried chicken wings I don't know....lol.... can I really give up going out on a date and not having a couple alcoholic drinks.... that is what people do on a date I mean what am I going to do want to date now I'm sorry I don't drink.... and then we go to dinner oh I'm sorry I don't eat more than 2 bites at a time will think I'm a weirdo... I don't want the focus of the day to be what I'm eating and drinking...or lack of.... but yes need to find a surgeon I really don't know who... did you have a consult with Baylor grapevine? their website looks like they have a really good after surgery program, shrug, and I don't know how long that doctors been doing it but call me crazy I don't want someone has been doing this for only 5 years.... that is the bonus with kim he's been doing this over a decade and I really thinka good surgeon just can't speak that great for his attitude personality or his staff.... I think they just schedule way too many people each day.....idk

I went with dr wade barker. I interviewed Baylor grapevine and decided they were not right for me. Dr barkers phone staff have some issues, but the docs are great. I had to call the after hours phone and dr barker called me back with in five minutes. Dr Thompson is the after care doc and he is WONDERFUL. I have heard negative things about dr Kim.

I too feel like telling people about this surgery and how easy it is if you follow your doctor's orders. A friend I work with told her girlfriend of my expierence and her friend went to my surgeon and had the sleeve surgery.. she is down 50 lbs and is 2 moths post op.

What I really would like to tell people is that surgery is covered by insurance in most cases. I would love to tell people here where I work that are overweight that you can get surery and everything is paid for by our insurarnce. But then I think of how I felt when people would say to me "oh you have such a pretty face but you really would look great if you lost weight" - it was the truth but it still hurt and I don't want to hurt anyone either.

I notice things about people that normally I would not have noticed before...like how big they are, what and how much they eat, how hard it is for them to get around... And i wonder how depressed they may be or maybe not it makes me sad for them... Then i feel bad because i wouldnt have wanted anyone to feel bad for me...since being on this journey its like a great fog has been lifted and i am truly more alive. But i know that everyone has to choose their own life & just because I am choosing this way of life doesnt mean its right for everyone.

Wow! I would have never admitted to this if this was not a thread. I always notice/find myself thinking "wow, they would be a perfect candidate for wls" I always felt like I was judging them. I would never tell the person, but I too notice how big they are, how much they eat, how much soda they drink, how difficult is for them to walk, etc. I know personally I would want to crawl out of my skin when people would want to sell me herbal life. My thought was always "gee thanks for pointing out my problem I struggle with and ruining my day" I would never want to do that to anyone about wls but I do notice I see everything!

I find myself seeing what they eat and you do have that moment of wow is this what people thought of me when I sat down to eat. Look at the big girl getting seconds again! On the flip side I now feel like People see me differently. I realize now that when people look at me they don't think wow she is a big girl. I want to tell people about wls, but it is like religion. I would never want to offend anyone or make someone feel bad about their bodies.

Excellent point! It is like religion. If they ask me about it I will talk about personal experience, if not well then....
