Hello, I live in Kearney and Dr. Hohen did my surgery. They only have support groups for people that he has done. Did you go to several different places before picking Dr. Malley? When I was first going thru and finding a place I didn't get a good vibe from his "program" or lack of one. I was given an exam and told I was a good canidate and then they wanted to know when I wanted to have it done and wouldn't tell me how much it was going to cost to have it done. There was no nutritionalist or psyh eval or meetings to attend to at the time for support. I have heard that he just pushes you thru. I didn't like that. I know that he has a support group and that is open to anyone but it is in Kansas. I went a few times and wasn't very impressed. The diet that most of them were eating was high in carbs and not much Protein and they didn't all seem to be losing weight as quickly as people in Dr. Hohen's group. They seem to have more bad habits or unhealthy ones that almost seemed like they were encouraged and not told to stop. Everyone must pick a program that works for you. That is why I chose Dr. H's program. He seemed to have a better success rate and patients seem to lose more and keep it off longer on his program. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your input. I did research other Dr.s and found that I liked Dr. Malley and his staff better than the other 2 Dr.s I went to. I thought his mandatory orientation was very helpful and informative. Dr. Malley was really great every time I meet him and I felt very comfortable with him. His nurses and staff have been great in answering all my questions. Thanks again!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
