I am waiting for my insurance to approve me before they can schedule my surgery date. I was originally going to get the sleeve but they declined it because I did not have a BMI of 50+. I chose to stick with Gastric Bypass. My doc office said they sent off all my paper work on May 9 and they still haven't heard anything back from my insurance. I have called my insurance a few times and today was the first time they said that they see it on there screen but it is in pending status. Does everything go into a pending status before getting approve or declined or is it pending because I am more than likely going to get denied?I may be over thinking all of this but geesh I started this journey on February 23rd. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hoping you get approved! I know that it can take 6 months for approval! Have you written a letter to your insurance company about your struggles with your weight? My surgeons office has everyone do that to help get insurance approval! If you haven't done that maybe that's worth a shot!

No I haven't done that. That is a good idea. How long did it take your insurance to approve you?

I am not familiar with UHC. All my insurance made me do was attend one support group, go see the dietician once, and psych eval. The process was easy but now I am waiting on BCBS to give the doctors office the go

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
