Stomach Hurts, Need advice AND Your thoughts.

Recommended Posts

Okay, where do I start? I had the Sleeve on Jan 9th of this year. Reached my Goal in 8 ½ months, now below my goal. My stomach hurts, I am never hungry, and I CAN’T eat. At first it was great; I mean I reached my goal. I am thin. But MY stomach HURTS. I have been Reading your post about when hungry hit around the 6th month point, and have waited. But nope not hungry, Cause tummy hurts, (ok, I have said that point enough).

So, I went to My Surgeon today, he put me on some MORE antacids, and did more blood work. He said to give Meds 2 weeks and if blood work looks okay he wants to do a “Gi~Scope” test to look for bile and acid in my stomach. And if it IS present, I would have to go from a Sleeve to a Bypass…. I am FREAKING OUT?! (He told ME NOT to freak out, but I am anyway)

What are your thoughts, and have you heard anyone that has had to do this????

Hey goldy.... Do you mind if I'm frank with you?

I think you are having more of psychological problem with food than a physical..

Don't hit me! Just hear me out...

You yourself have been questioning this the last several months... It makes sense, I mean all of us had issues with food before, hence the surgery so it's not far of a stretch to exhibit anorexic tendencies for some afterward...

I am not a doctor, but I think a bypass is NOT the answer. Have you called a therapist that deals in disordered eating?

Now I might be totally off base on this..

In which case you can tell me to screw off.

You wouldn't be the first (today even :P)

But I think your scared and making yourself sick..

I have actually been asking my self that too, I even asked the doctor today, and It is something he is looking into. Yes I am afraid to eat, but also, My first upper GI showed gastritius, (spelling)...and irritation and swelling. So there is at least some physical issue too. and Thanks for your "Frankness" Each time I hear it is does seem a little more real...Head issues too....

Gerd..or gastritis can definitely cause some issues.. In the beginning some have had it so bad they do have to convert to bypass, but in most cases it can be controlled by the right meds.

:)

And food issues? Like I said all of us have problems with it! I still even after all this time (and therapy) have thoughts of bingeing... But it's what I do with those thoughts that make the difference (most days anyway)

My doctor mentioned that in some cases, they do have to do the bypass if the GERD can't be controlled. And in some studies I have read, the issue doesn't crop up till later. Keeping my fingers crossed the increased meds work for you. I agree some part might be psych, but it's likely some physical issues as well. If the scope shows a stricture, I think it can be stretched. Or maybe a hiatial hernia has showed up and can be fixed.

Ok, I have to tell you this. My stomach had been hurting so much. I have esophageal spasms which I'm on meds for. They have calm down somewhat and I am now on 2 prilosec per day instead of one for acid reflux which will really make your tummy hurt. I had an endoscope and I have bile reflux and acid reflux which causes gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). Since taking the antiacids twice a day the pain has gotten better. I think that we all need to be on some sort of PPI. That is if we have problems. So my point being that if you have a stricture, or gastritis, or any of the other things besides ulcers that can really eat through your tummy, you can be treated. I wouldn't have the bypass unless it was the last resort. I think the meds he gave you will help.

Good thoughts going your way! Keep us posted on your condition.

. I am ten months out now, but when I was four month out my stomach would hurt so bad and constant throwing up. I had to have another upper GI scope. My sleeve had to be stretch due to my sleeve being too tight. I pray that meds or stretching of your sleeve will help.keep us updated! Praying for you!

I agree that you should not get a bypass unless it's a last resort. There are so many other things to try first.

My stomach hurts badly if I do not take my Protonix.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
