Alcohol...? How much??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm going to be banded on Feb 22nd and I love to party!!! Will I still be able to drink enough to get a buzz?? I know that sounds bad but I like to have fun and I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to get drunk again!! :o

I was banded in June 06 and a couple of weeks ago I decided to try and have a mixed drink. I ended up drinking I think 4 or 5 and had to be almost carried to bed hahahha. I can't drink like I used to doesn't take much at all to get me buzzed.

I was banded on October 2nd, 2006. I have no problem with drinking alcohol. You should probably stick to wine or cranberry juice and vodka. That's what I do. I limit the beer to maybe 1 or 2. I don't do too well with that. But I wouldn't recommend anything with coke or too sweet. Good Luck!

:o Hi Dina, That was one of my first question to the surgeon, he told me that alcohol should be very limited due to the calories. He did say though, that you won't have to drink as much in order get that happy feeling. Oh also said that I should no longer drink anything carbonated....beer...because of the chance of too much gas in my stomach causing the band to slip. Then he turned to my husband and said I'll be a cheap date! I'm with you, I love going out and having fun although, I'd wrather be skinny than buzzed. Good luck and keep us posted. Nicole

It takes alot less to have any affect, so you'll want to be careful when you start drinking again. I waited the full 6 weeks that had any dietary restrictions, since it was the 'healing period'. Calorie wise, alcohol is a beast, so be careful that you aren't eating well and exersizing and then blowing your weight loss cuz of the drinks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
