Weave or braids: What to do with hair for surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have relaxed hair and i'm thinking of getting a weave or braids before surgery so hair is one less thing to deal with as my body tries to adapt to the surgery......also so i dont have to deal with hair shedding everyday. What did you do? What do you recommend?

Actually, the added tension on your hair will cause breakage and increase Hair loss. :/

I got myself a wig. It was great! I washed, deep conditioned, moisturized and sealed, and braided my own hair in 4 braids underneath so that if I wanted to I could wear it crimpy like I do sometimes. I ended up wearing my wig the whole time- and I woke up in recovery and it was still on- thankfully!! :) I braided it in two ponytails preop. I love it so much I'm still wearing it.

I braided mine right before surgery. It helped keep my routine simple.

I have got stylish cornrows in preparation for my surgery on Wednesday. I don't even want to have to think about hair for a couple of weeks.

I have been going natural since March and have worn my hair in a variety of styles including weaves and wigs. My surgery is scheduled for nov 6 and I just braided my hair this last weekend. Will see how it goes.I tend to have issues wirh my scalp so that too will be a possible concern especially at that 3 month mark when everyone seems to have Hair loss.< /p>

I'm natural, so I'll go with some twists for surgery,

I have gone short with a keratin, so I'll be taking my satin pillow to lay on when I go to the hospital and a brush. Very low maintenance...

I was sleeved on 2/24/14 my hair is natural, so two simple french braids worked for me. I was able to keep my hair till Saturday then redid it.

I think the key to maybe preventing Hair loss is taking your Vitamins. Pre op to took Vitamins B12, Biotin and Calcium with D3. I plan on resuming once I'm cleared.

Hope this will help someone in the long run.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
