Surgery on Friday. Uneventful. I stayed an extra night to get past the nausea and get used to drinking Water all day. I went home Sunday, pretty sore but ok. Monday felt ok. Not great. Started having cramps and assumed it was part of the process. Tuesday morning I was very sick. My daughter took me to the ER in Arlington. I assumed that I was just dehydrated but they did a CT scan eventually and by then the bile was coming up. Turned out I had an incarcerated hernia/obstruction. They transferred me to Dallas by ambulance for an emergency surgery. Got released Friday evening and am recovering nicely. Blood pressure is high an O2 is low but both are improving.

I'm doing ok with water but Protein is a challenge to get in.

I'm using a c-pap all day and all night. Doing the breathing exercising. That makes me cough! But it brings O2 up.

I'm looking forward to chicken, tuna and cottage cheese!

That sounds rough! Glad you made it to the ER. Sounds like the hernia was not detected during the sleeve? You poor thing. Hope you feel better soon

Thank you.

I went to get my staples out today. My O2 sats remain in the high 80s ... Improving. Yesterday I went to see my pcp and she ordered a chest X-ray because she suspected aspiration pneumonia. Sure enough, while I was with my surgeon, they called me to go in to get a shot! I have pneumonia!

I feel better, though and my blood pressure remains good!

I'm looking forward to having some real food on Friday! tuna salad or scrambled eggs! Sounds like heaven to me!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
