Hello,

I just wanted to let the band community know more about me. Tomorrow will make two months since I have been banded though my weight loss has been steady I really am ready for a fill. I’m praying after I get the fill I will not eat as much. The problem I am running into is that I went out of the country to get my band and now and lot of Dr.s in my area are not willing to give me a fill so I guess I am feeling a little self defeated. It’s hard to see your weight go and then it completely slows down. I am staying positive I am counting to exercise and I have completly changed my eating habits. If anyone has any feedback on my message please respond.

Hi SP -

Although fills are integral to band success, it is possible to continue to be successful without them. Even (gasp!) without the band itself!!

Even if your weightloss slows, if you eat nutritiously 70% of the time, move your body a little bit, and eat a little less in general, you will be losing weight, albeit maybe slower than you'd like. But you're already eating less than you used to, so your weight is going to naturally go down.

Focus on making healthy choices and learning to stop eating when you're full, and eat only when you're physically hungry, and those are the main battles you face, whether you are filled or not.

Good luck, and I hope that you find a fill doctor soon. In the meantime, continue to make healthy permanent lifestyle changes, and they will stand you in good stead, even if the band isn't helping as much as it eventually will.

I agree - it can be SO disheartening can't it?

but, could you imagine how you would be feeling if you didn't have the band? We are so lucky to be post op & on the "losing" side...

We need to try to keep focused - we're doing this for us ! We CAN do this !

Hope you find a fill Dr really soon

Aud x

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
