It hasn't been around that long. When I had my surgery in 2012 my doctors aid it was only five out and there was a lot of unanswered questions.

The longest I believe was a 3-5 year prospective (aka follow patients over time) study that found that half of the patients were deficient in at least 1 micro nutrient (such as vitamins) and around 10% had comorbidities. However it was found that most of the deficiencies arise in the first few months and after that, its not likely to show up. Another point was that be wary that your deficiencies before your surgery might worsen after. Read some peer reviewed articles and they do show lots of deficiencies as the worst side-effect of the surgery. As for longer term than 5 years, there has not been any. [i feel necessary to add that there are many benefits found in shorter studies showing diabetes to become easier to control, lower cholesterol, and blood pressure (which reduces the chance of heart attack and stroke)].

My mom had stomach cancer 23 years ago and basically had 3/4 of her stomach removed. She went from 190lbs to 125lbs and has been there since. She has been normal and healthy since, she eats small portions just like me.......

Yes, the surgery has been around a long time but was not specifically used as a stand-alone weight loss until a few years ago.

Edit: here is the history of the VSG: http://bariatrictimes.com/the-history-of-sleeve-gastrectomy/

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
