If I were looking at this problem I would probably go with the Duodonal Switch. It is considered the Gold standard in Weight Loss surgery and is often done after the sleeve for people who have a lot of weight to lose. Not all Doctors do the DS but you might want to ask your Doctor about it. I'm sorry that you are on a plateau which is what my nutritionist calls any stall that lasts longer 4 weeks. I'm sure its frustrating and hard watching others get to goal when you are stuck. I was sleeved around the same time as you June 4th 2012. I lost very slowly my first 6 months and then I became really focused, kept my calories at 700 per day and my carbs under 20 grams a day, worked out 6 days a week burning off most of those calories that I ate (according to my Heart Rate monitor). Again, in your situation I would go with DS rather than band...... talk to someone who has had the band, it's not pleasant and could cause a lot more problems in the future if you develop scarring around the band.

Since most of your stomach was taken out, I would think the band would cause more problems than with a regular stomach! I'm no doctor but it seems like that would be a horrible idea! What if it causes scar tissue, slips, or erodes? If all other options have failed, I would look into th DS. I've never heard of the band over sleeve.

My doctor said if the sleeve fails he would do a bypass not the band. If what you are eating is ok then why would a band be needed?

I suggest getting some bloodwork done to see what your thyroid is doing. My aunt had lap band done and she had the same issue. She got stuck after loosing only 40 lbs. She had her thyroids checked and it turns out she had hypothyroidism. She got on the correct medication and has lost an additional 62 lbs. So check that also. Good luck.

Have you tried the 5 day pouch test?

www.5daypouchtest.com

I am beginning the 5day pouch test today and its only 5 pm and I have a headache and dying to munch on something. I started the test because I've been stalled for two months! Sleeved on nov 20th 2012 and I've only lost 60 lbs. any suggestions to get me through the test?

Hello, I went to the Center for Weight loss a few years ago and was doing good then I could not lose any weight then they checked my Testosterone level which were low they put me on the hell cream and I lost weight quick. Now you being a women it may be the same with the Horemones, not sure but ask the Dr. . Also have your Vitamin D levels checked because after the Testosterone a few months later I hit a mother plateau and my Vitamin D levels was real low and after taking 2000 mg. a day I started losing again. I ope this works or you find out why. Good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
