Slow losers..... Motivational steps

Recommended Posts

To those with the discouraging surgeons I'd say that you should definitely be on plan and trying to exercise. But all too often even the surgeons get caught up in the idea that everyone is the same and they set a standard that many can reach but that isn't universal. I wouldn't stress and I wouldn't beat myself up about it. For every swift loser here on VST you'll find a slow one, too. It's very individual. I think this is further complicated when your surgeon is very familiar with the bypass an hasn't done as many sleeves. I see some surgeons suggesting post bypass losses to people, and we almost never see anyone lose at those rates after our surgery.

So keep doing what you're doing and you'll see success, even if it's not as quickly as your surgeon would like. I lose slower than I'd like, but I still lose!

Before and after body shots

You look great! Great work!

I still have a slow metabolism. It's very easy for me to graze and fool myself into thinking I'm hardly eating anything. I finally had to learn to count every single calorie I put into my mouth.

Yes! I think this is true for more than just slow losers, too! We get to maintenance and feel normal, and are much happier with how we look. Without a huge, looming goal in sight it's very easy to just slip into a lifestyle that has you in total denial about how much you're consuming and that has you constantly grazing. I can easily graze an extra 400-500 calories in a day if I let myself! Being accountable about your intake is crucial.

Yes, I would like to agree to not get discouraged. It's very easy to think this surgery isn't going to work for me when you have those long stalls. I stalled once for 4 months, and still ended up losing 15 more lbs. I go on a stall then all of a sudden, after weighing every day, I suddenly saw a 5 lb drop.

I was stalling around 204lb up 1 pound then back down 1 for weeks. I had to go back to basics.

I did the 5daypouchtest.com it work to decrease cravings for sliders. popcorn OMG. I was addicted. Well that pouch test broke that carvings for sliders.

Went from 204 to 199lbs by the 5th day.

The goods news is I went into ketosis with it and lost another 2 pounds!

Stalling again today but I understand more between dense Protein in the pyloric sphincter vs sliders foods.

I was eating like I had already lost all the weight.

Before the pouch test. Lol

Its a comfort to know that I am not alone with this 'slow looser' thing. However, tho' the scale is not showing much movement - I notice changes in my body almost every day. Differences in things I can do now, the way my clothes fit, my energy level. I was just so excited when I got out of the 300's - I guess I am just so ready to get out of the 200's now! Patience..patience!

I know what you mean. My scale FINALLY moved and I'm out of the 290's. at least it's moving in the right direction. I just need to improve my eating and drinking. Need more food and Water. (And when I say food I mean protein)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
