Ladies...bra question

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm making my lists for the hospital and afterwards, and realized that all of my bras are underwire. Every one of 'em. Will that be okay, or should I pick up a couple of "comfort" ones for while incisions are healing? Going without is not an option :).

I wore a sports bra (got a 3 pack from wal-mart) or the first 2 weeks!! It was a life saver until my staples were taken out.

I remember when I had my emergency gallbladder surgery last year that I wore a underwire bra and I was comfortable since it was low enough were it didn't hit the top staple line near my bra area.

I wore a regular bra and I have the shortest torso- I'm 4'11 and have a 30"inseam. Lol. You should be ok without it rubbing!!

I would wear a comfy one, becuz one of my incisions was right at my bra line and it hurt. I put a bandaid on it and then I was fine. Good luck!!

My top incision was exactly where the strap of my bra goes, right in between my boobs. For about two weeks after surgery I felt like all the weight of my boobs (considerable weight!) was on that incision. I tried all kinds of bras, but still had an issue until I started padding the incision. I tried a lot of different things to pad it, but what worked best was a stray sock that I cut into square pieces, folded one of the pieces up into a smaller square, then stuck between the bra and the incision. That was the only thing that made wearing any bra bearable for me.

One of my incisions was too high to wear an underwire bra- it was several weeks. Buy yourself at least one non-underwire or sports bra just to be safe.

You've all convinced me this is a better-safe-than-sorry situation, so I ordered a couple on Amazon tonight. Thanks!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
