Yay! I survived the 3 week post op liquid diet!

Recommended Posts

My surgeon's liquid post op diet is no joke. It's three weeks of liquids that can fit easily through a strainer, so no jell-o, pudding, yogurt, etc. To make it worse I hate Soup except chicken broth based, so these 3 weeks were pretty tough. It's just really strange not to chew anything. Today starts my 3 week soft food phase and I have never been so happy to have ricotta cheese in my life! I'm so glad that part is behind me!

My surgeon requires the same, but my surgery isn't for a while yet. Glad you are feeling better and getting to eat yummy things! Yay textures! lol

My surgeon's post-op liquid diet is the same except we aren't allowed Soup (other than clear broth) and it's for four weeks . . . luckily for me he gave me permission to advance to purees a week early since I was doing well. Believe me, I was SO sick of all liquids after three weeks, I was actually looking forward to pureed tuna fish! I totally get where you are coming from :)

I did the nothing that would fit through a strainer liquid diet for 3 weeks also. It was absolutely horrible. My problem was that I absolutely despise anything that even looks like milk. I just could not do those Protein Shakes. The last week I lived on nothing but strained Soup. I am so happy to be on soft foods now and my whole diet revolves around getting enough Protein at every meal. I feel so much better!

Oh my goodness I don't think I could have done this for another week! Since I don't like soup, chicken broth was the only thing I ate in the soup family. I'm glad you've gotten to move on too!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
