Hi!!!

My name is Ashley and I'm orginally from Chicago. However I've lived in Houston in the Clearlake area for over two years. Throughout my life I've always been heavy. In fact I can't think of a time I wasn't the fat girl. I've tried the diets, and the plans but I could never stick with it. I'd give up. Recently I've been doing alot of thinking, and more praying and I've decided its time to live a new healthy life by making new choices.

On Saturday I have a appt. with Dr. Marvin of OSS in Houston. I've done my research and I trust him and his staff to support me through this time. I'm really ready...

This is a picture of me and the love of my life, John.

Welcome Ashley and John,

You are such a cute couple and very cute love. You are making a great decision in your life. I'm 42, so lots older than you and I'd tried every diet known to mankind and couldn't loose 5 pounds. I lost 60 pounds the first 5 months after banding. It's slowed down lots this month but I've had severe kidney stones and been in the hospital quite abit. Good luck and you'll love your band. Welcome.

Hi, Ashley!

Good luck with all of your journey! You have come to a great place for information, and best of all, support!

You ask any questions, and someone will try to help you!

I had surgery 17 months ago...best decision I ever made! I wanted to be a more active mom to my 9 year old, and I'm 51...practically ancient compared to you! LOL!

Good luck...come often for hugs and help!

Cindy

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
