Howdy Misspiano and welcome to the Canuck Corner

:canada: :welcome:

Good luck with your research...you are doing a great thing coming here; this website is excellent for info....I know it was invaluable for me. Be sure to check out the general threads and the support threads as well (ie. not just the Canuck corner)....there is so much info to be gleaned. Also, the search function is very useful.

Welcome Misspiano! I second, third and fourth everything they said, and I too don't know anything about that clinic.

What do you know? Who's the Dr? How many have they done? How much do they charge? :)

Welcome again!

Mandi

Dr Taylor is one.. The guys were trained by Mc Gill Bariartrics. The head guy from McGill was coming every month to watch and train. They have been doing it since last Jan. There is another dr. and I can't remember his name. Both drs. are on staff at Sarnia General Hosp.I called today to talk with them but my contact person was away... so I shall try again tomorrow. The cost is $15000. I have no medical ins. so it is a self pay.

The threads on here are quite interesting and informative.

Thanks for all your replies.

Blessings

Neila

Hmmm... interesting. Haven't heard of anyone being banded by them, so I can't comment on that. What led you to them?

And yeah... we're all self-pay, with the exception of a few lucky Albertans and maybe a lurking NB-er :)

Do you have an appointment for actual surgery, or just a consultation?

Self-payer from Alberta. Dr. Cobourn (Ontario) is my doctor. Surgery date set for January 10th. Gulp.

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Only a few lucky Albertans. I was told by Dr. Coburn that the clinic in Calgary is funded to 25 per year, and that when he was here to train them they did 12 of those at that time. That is not nearly enough in such a wealthy province like ours.

I would really like to hear from some people who have had theirs paid for by AB health, but I dont think there are any here.

So like most people here, I am doing a self pay with Dr. Coburn on Feb.14.

Andrew

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
