Has anyone cane home the same day as surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved July 1 and went home the same day. Surgery was at 7:15 am and I left at 5:00 pm. They would have had me leave earlier but I had a bad reaction to anesthesia and was having oxygen issues.

I went home the next afternoon. I definitely would have slept better if I'd gone home the same day... (well, except that then I wouldn't have had the pain med pump, which was awesome!) I kept setting off the alarms because my pulse or blood pressure would drop too low. I wasn't concerned about that because I always have low blood pressure and my pulse is pretty low too. (I've been "excused" from donating blood because my pulse was below 50 - and that was pre-surgery.)

Excellent. How did you feel when you got home? You know' date=' day one, day two? Everyone else seems to be in the hospital for days one and two. I'm just wondering how you felt at home. Thanks for reassuring me.[/quote']

The first day I came home I felt fine, slept a lot, took a shower. Day 2 was the worst of all of my recovery. The gas was horrible, I was still nauseated from the anthesesia. But it's all been up hill since then :) ill be 2 weeks this coming Wednesday and I've lost 20 lbs so far

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
