OB wants me to eat 2200 calories a day?!?!

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 months post-op, lost 90 pounds and about 8 weeks pregnant. My ob requested my calories go up to 2200 a day...I'm barely at 1200 and have gained 10lbs as I'm usually at 900. I'm terrified that I'm going to be right back where I was. I had surgery in Mexico and my surgeon and I don't exactly get along, I prefer not to contact him ever again lol. My pregnancy was a total surprise, actually found out on our honeymoon.

Congrats.

I might be way off on this so I like to see others oppions also, but You need more calories so your baby stays healthy. You will gain some weight from being pregnant but that is normal. Do the best you can of getting in good calories and not bad ones like chips and junk food. High Protein like chicken.

After the baby comes you just have to get back to it and focus on eating better and lower the calorie intake. I wish you luck and hope everything goes well.

Is the a option that you could contact a doctor there and explain whats going on? Maybe they will help you if they know whats going on?

I would suggest if the calories worry you stop counting them, and focus on eating fresh, lightly cooked or raw fruits and veggies. Keep your protiens lean, and get in healhy fats. Your baby in no way needs refined sugars or most grains. So every calorie spent thus couldl be a better calorie, nutrition wise. You will also see a difference in how you gain during pregnancy this way versus empty calories. A healthier baby will burn more of what you have to offer.

Water gain is unavoidable, and you have placenta, milk and such, so don't fret every pound.

yay, babies!!!

You only need an extra 300 calories in your first trimester, 350 in your second and 500 in your last to maintain your weight. Though the dr may be concerned about making sure the baby is getting enough nutrients to be healthy. I would discuss it with a NUT and see what they suggest. The weight usually falls off after the baby is born if you are breast feeding. I lost 30lbs in 2mths breast feeding after I had my son. Congrats!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
