Getting through a stall (per Caspanelli)

Recommended Posts

WeeWers here:

Caspanelli asked what are ways we get through a stall. Being pre-op I'm of no knowledge here. I *do* know I think it would be quite devastating -- especially if it went on more that a few days. I would immediately think I was doing something to cause the stall!

Stalls sound AWFUL !!

Following your program is the best way to get through a stall. Please try to NOT weigh every day, it'll just drive you crazy. Patience and KNOW that if you follow your program you will lose weight as fast as your body can.

Stalls happen. There's nothing much you can really do to prevent them for the most part. The body has a way of out smarting us. The key is to follow your eating plan, get the right amount of exercise. It may not prevent a stall, but it does keep you heading the right direction.

You should consider changing your mindset on this. Stalls are not devastating or awful. They are part of the process. And they will effect you much less if you don't focus on the scale. I encourage everyone to invest $30 in an Omron body fat analyzer or some other similar bio impedance device. They give the true measure of what's going on with your body. My weight has not moved in 3 months but my body fat % continues to drop. And isn't that what's important?

You better prepare yourself now for stalls, because they WILL happen..I'm 8 weeks out and I stall like every other week for about 2 weeks at a time..It's very frustrating and I'm doing everything right, but it still happens..Luckily though the scale eventually goes down again and I just try to think of it as pounds lost forever, where in the past, it would go up, go down, go up, go down and then I would give up..Now I can't give up and hopefully a year from now I will be at my goal weight forever!

First of all you aren't going to lose everyday. I only lose weight once ot twice a month. Meaning the scale only moves once or twice a month. I don't even care to weigh myself much anymore. I feel amazing and weighing and obsessing over a number would take away from that. I'm down about 80 pounds in a little less than 7 months. Your weight loss will not make sense or be consistent but you will lose! Don't have crazy expectations and it will not be devastating!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm 8 weeks out and have lost 7 pounds. It is frustrating, but I'm trying to constantly remember that I've gone down 2 sizes and have so much energy. My new Spring clothes are baggy but I'm wearing them anyway. That will remind me too!

Yes, stalls are very frustrating. But i have found that during times when the scale isnt moving, the inches are coming off.

So please, do measurements once a month and remember to take those pics :)

Even though your weight isn't fast moving, you are down 2 sizes? That is so awesome. Congrats on your non- scale success!!

I am 6 weeks out. I have lost 25 pounds but only a couple in the last 3 weeks. I don't weigh daily but I wonder if my metabolism just won't lose. My age maybe? I'm 63. I can't exercise aerobically now because of severe back pain.

My clothes are looser too. Especially the pants. My abdomen still feels large. I am now 5'3" (lost 2 inches these last 3-4 years) and was 263 when I started the 2 week pre surgery diet.

I kind of thought the pounds would slip off. So I am a bit frustrated.

I posted that during the summer when I was off work. I started back with kids this past week and I feel terrible. I'm 62,by the way. I teach 4 year olds and all week I couldn't walk when I got out if bed! I hobbled around the house for over an hour befor MEDS and an icy/hot patch on my lowere back made it even possible to get dressed. I'm frustrated too. I thought I would lose bookoo pounds in the beginning so going to back to school would be less painful. I was wrong. I lost 20 on the predict and after, 1 pound a week :(

I am 63 and have a bum knee. The weight WILL come off, but only as fast as it can! Please don't give up, just keep pushing through.

don't give up! I admire you for having enough energy to work with 4 year olds.... at any age! hang in there, your body is probably in back to school shock or something. I am sorry to hear that getting going is painful..I know how much my knees jammed up and still jam up sometimes. Just keep taking the meds, keep moving and the weight will keep coming off.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
