I thought I would take a few moments to introduce myself. I am just beginning my journey and currently at 340 pounds. I've battled with my weight my whole life and I'm tired of being heavy. My husband is saying that he's very supportive and loves me for the way I am but I fear that when the changes occur he won't. I have two daughters they are 13 and 14 and are very supportive of my decision.

When I started my journey I first had the idea that I was going to pursue the gastric band procedure and after visiting with my doctor he is suggested the gastric sleeve and I started to research that is well. I see the nutritionist next week to start my 6 month supervised diet. My doctor said once that and the psych evaluation was done I would get approved through my insurance. We are shooting for December for my surgery. At this point I am leaning more toward the sleeve, still just trying to get information.

Welcome. This is a great place to do some of your research. When I decided to have the surgery I was on this site often. Start reading all the forums and putting questions out there. We are always willing to share our experience! Good luck on your 6 month journey to join us sleevers!

You are on the right path! I was sleeved April 10th and I am SO happy I did it! There is a lot of great, real-life experience on this site but remember that every one will respond differently to surgery and the lifestyle changes required to be successful. Good luck!

I have already made some life changes....membership to a local gym and did my first splash cardio class last night.....due to surgeries, injuries, and medical conditions I am limited on exercises that I can do.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
