I was supposed to be sleeved on 9/11 and chickened out. I'm scared to death of Hair loss. I have thin hair now that I'm very self conscience about. I'm scared of losing it and becoming bald. I know it sounds silly, but it freaks me out!

Hair loss is not permanent... The side effects of being overweight can be.

You could end up like me and not lose any hair after surgery. I was sleeved in Oct and haven't noticed any Hair loss or clumps of hair falling out. My biggest regret is that I didn't look into it sooner. I thought you had to weigh over 300 lbs to qualify for wls. I'm glad that I still have many years left to enjoy this surgery :) Only you can decide whether or not you want the surgery. I was terrified the day of surgery but I knew that I needed this and I didn't want to back out at the last minute. Maybe 9/11 wasn't the right time but maybe in a year of two you might be ready. Good Luck

I'm 10 weeks out and seem to be doing really good with my hair. I did have the band for 6 years and had the revision to the sleeve so maybe that helps since it's not a total shock to my body. I took Biotin 500mcg before the surgery (1 month) and have continued that. I'm not big on Protein Shakes but try to get them in. Some regrets b.c I can't enjoy food the way I use too which is probably a good thing, and going out to dinner, yea forget that, it is so hard to eat or I can't eat it all. I know I am new and it will get easier to eat, but right now it is still hard to do. I wouldn't change it though. I use to be 300 the band took me to 185, I gained back some and ballooned to 235 b.c my band had to be un-filled and I'm not back on track at 196 :)

I've had 6 wls and the sleeve is the only time I've lost hair. It happens. We all deal with Hair loss differently so I don't have any answers for you. Yes, my hair is VERY important to me, but....

I'd rather walk around in a hat than walk around fat!

:D

Or worse.. Die from being fat? I cant imagine how pissed and hurt my family would be that I didn't even try to help myself

Now that I'm healthy and my hair isn't failing out as much.. I walk with pride and self confidence I never knew existed

Sometime in life you have to set priorities

I was sleeved on 9/5. I started loosing hair around 4 months posted pics of it but it wasn't bad at all I think I freaked myself out. Now over 7months out and nothing, it stopped last month all back to normal and it feels so much healthier like what fell out was old and dry anyway. I also never stopped getting my foils every 6weeks. If that's the only thing you are really scared of, don't be. It is all worth it....

Yep. hair loss is a scary thought for me. I have thin hair anyway. I have lost hair before with dieting, although I didn't connect the two. I hated it. I really, really hated it.

I'm 10 weeks out today and it has not happened yet although I have read and heard it is more typical beginning about 4 months out. I have taken every precaution, loads of Biotin, lots of Protein, on pre op and was getting about 60 grams within about 5 days of surgery so I know I have done everything I can to prevent it.

It might happen anyway.

While I hope it doesn't, I won't complain if it does because the way I feel, today at 10 weeks out is SO much better than I have felt ever in my entire adult overweight life. I feel healthy, well and in control. I feel healthy from the inside out and I know I look better, I have a spring in my step and and have more energy than I know what to do with.

If I lose some, it will grow back. The way I feel and look at 42 pounds lighter is priceless.

I can't help you will think the same! :) :)

Good luck with your decision making, I'm sure you will know what is right for you!

Here is the before and about a month ago. My hair is up today so I don't have a good pic for today. The next time I blow it out I will post it. Don't let it stop you. I'm down 62lb and feel great. You would have been sleeved around the same time as me and I am a slow looser. No pressure and I'm not saying it to make you feel bad but time is short.

before top of the hub.

hair progress

I hope it helps.

Thank you everyone. I'm weighing my options again. I think since I've gained weight 10 years ago (95 pounds to be exact) I've hid behind my hair.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
