Looking for an opinion-Dr.Anthony McCluney

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow Bostonian! I am currently waiting for insurance approval and am a patient of Dr. McCluney. Did he end up doing your surgery? If so how did it go?

Dr. McCluney did my surgery on 2/5/14 and everything was perfect! I was evening sleeping on my stomach the day after I got home from the hospital!

It was about 2 weeks for the insurance approval once I finished all of the insurance required appointments... I have BCBS. After that the doctor is scheduling about 5-6weeks out because he's fairly busy. My first consultation was 10/2/13 and surgery was 2/5/14 so it was about 4 months total start to finish, it would have been quicker but the holidays pushed everything back a little for me. You also have to make sure you meet the goal weight they have you before surgery otherwise McCluney won't operate!

Great job! I know that they usually try to estimate when the insurance approval will come through and use that to choose a surgery date. I would guess your surgery will be either late March or early April depending on when the info was submitted. Once you do have a surgery date you will have one more day of pre op appointments where you meet with anesthesia, nutrition, and the nurse practitioner Martha. She is really great and will explain to you everything to expect on surgery day and the days after.

I'm doing good, I just went back to work yesterday. I'm on soft Proteins now and I haven't had problems with any foods. It's nice to eat some real food now!

I had surgery with Dr McCluney at Saint E's on November 13, 2013. I loved everything about him and his staff. My surgery was typical, went well and I was very comfortable within hours of surgery. Used only pain meds in hospital on first day and didn't even fill the prescription they sent me home with. Post op care has been great. I first met with him on 8/13/13 and had surgery 3 months later to the day. BCBS was insurance and it was extremely quick. His office did all the leg work. I've lost 54 lbs so far and couldn't be happier about my choice for surgery and Dr McCluney. Best of luck. You are in excellent hands.

Congrats to you on approval and a surgery date. Aside from some maybe tough days at first you are headed for a great journey. Be optimistic and try not too worry about anything. You are in good hands and Dr McCluney is top notch. He is so caring and really wants the best for you.

I'm trying to start running my trouble is just finding the time. It will come though especially if we can get to some warmer temps.

Best of luck in your prep for surgery and keep in touch. I would love to follow your progress. Are you having surgery in Boston or south shore?

Thank you for the great advice Denise! My surgery will be at St. E in Brighton.

That's awesome about starting to run! I know what you mean about the warm weather. I turn into a bit of a hermit myself in the winter. In the summer the sun stays out longer giving us more time to get our butts outside for walks/runs. I am actually pretty stoked about the timing of the surgery. I live by a huge lake so I can get my walking in and hopefully one day the walk turns into a run!

Where did you have your surgery? What are your stats if you don't mind me asking? I am 36 starting weight 255 right now but first weight in last February with McCluney was 285.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
