It's been awhile since I have posted here, actually I havent posted since my surgery on 2/13/13, I have been a lil angry and didnt want to give anyone the wrong impression of a proceedure that could save their life. First a lil bit about myself, I weighed over 320 before my surgery I am now at 277 :) have A-fib, take heart meds and a blood thinner. Prior to my surgery I was to stop taking my blood thinner (5 days prior) well I forgot and started 4 days prior but I did inform my doctor of my mistake, he said not to worry. I was admitted the nite before surgery so they could monitor my blood and the numbers were still a lil high so the morning of surgery they gave me plasma to bring down my numbers for the INR. I was scheduled for 7 a.m. but wasnt taken til 4 p.m. since my levels were still high, mean while they gave me a total of 5 bags of plasma. I woke up from the surgery alright and was walking around that evening and the next morning fine actually the nurses were teasing me that I would get out early. Then holy hell broke loose and I went downhill in a flash, my blood pressure dropped to 78/38 I couldnt breath nor could I respond to their request. I went into kidney and respitory failure due to having my system overloaded with fluids!!! BUT they didnt tell me this was the reason until I was being discharged 2 weeks later, they just kept telling me they didnt know what was wrong grrrr. So I come home having to have oxygen 24/7 which I never had before, a visiting nurse and therapist. My doctor said they got a lil over zealous the day of surgery, and I was thinking you could have killed me. Needless to say I was angry because of a surgery that should have only kept me in the hospital 2 days ended up to be 14 days and I come home very weak and with oxygen. I went to my first post op appointment .....strained was putting it lightly, I skipped my second but went to my 3rd and saw the PA. It's gonna be a long recovery, I have to have my kidneys checked once a month til August--so far so good. Im still winded so I dont exercise alot but I am down 43 lbs. What I want you to know is if there is any questions or feelings about what they are doing to you MAKE them explain everything and how it will affect you....dont let them treat you like an outsider THIS is your body you have the right to know what they are doing and WHY! NOW do I regret having the surgery NO not at all what I regret is the effects of some of the proceedures they did prior to my surgery. I wish everyone success in their journey and a healthy and happy life :) I will get there the road is just a lil longer at the moment. Celtic

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
