Had my surgery 18 September. Everything went well although I seemed to spend a long time in the recovery room. Thursday was a day from hell. Couldn't get a needle in to my veins correctly with the result I didn't get enough pain relief. Finally sorted out Thursday afternoon. Haven't really suffered too much from the gas as have been in and out of my bed as I have been unable to sleep. Friday morning went for my barium meal and that was ok. Discharged back to my hotel. Nurse came to hotel on Saturday morning, gave me my shot, checked my wounds and I was free to go. Flew back to Scotland yesterday afternoon, had 5 tablespoons of Soup and finally slept in my own bed. Got up this morning and I'm feeling on top of the world. Have put a washing on and I'm sipping Water. Hope you're feeling better Aggie 1234.

Hi looby Lou. Glad to hear your feeling better. I'm feeling worse than yesterday. Back pain is out of this world. Never suffered so much. I'm wondering if it's gas or it really is back pain or is it because I've not moved around alot

Take your pain killers if you have.. I was like a zombie for nearly two weeks.. I had so much pain heaving my large body around that I couldn't say for sure if I experienced back pain!! That gas is not a great feeling, I felt it mostly near my shoulders, but it could be transferred to your back.. Also watch kidneys :) hope you feel better, don't let the pain get you down!! Rest, relax, recouperate :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
