The surgeon doesn't do them...but they should have a list of who does. My barriatric center hospital had one but also offered a few others in the area. But get it done ASAP because they sometimes have things they want you to do before your surgery or in my case before the insurance would approve it. I had to attend 4 support groups and my family had to attend 1 or 2. Some people had to attend nutrition classes. And I've heard if the psych eval person thinks your crazy you have to do more. Lol.

I'm waiting on insurance approval now.

Typically, you will have to see a licensed psychologist, not just a therapist. In addition, it will have to be a psychologist trained in certain specific assessment tools. If at all possible, use the one the surgeon recommends. It's a b***h to find one on your own. My surgeon is over an hour away, so I found one in my small town. She's awesome & I love her, but it was a pain in the ass to find her even though I know about this stuff! ;)

Ok. I was confused bc I been doing a 6 month diet and when I called the surgeon to make an appt the receptionist asked if I had did the evaluation yet..socc that's why I was wondering if I had to do it on my own

I just had mine today. I was provided a list of Drs that my surgeons office finds acceptable to do the Psych Eval. However they do not schedule for you.. I was a little nervous but appointment went good. I am officially cleared to have surgery. Just have to finish the rest of my requirements!

Good luck to you :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
