Scars - Discomfort for how long?

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

It's been a while since I've posted but I have a question that I'm hoping some of you can answer for me. I was banded six weeks ago (10/23) and tonight when I got home from work, the scar on the far left side of my body seems a bit irritated/tender etc. It's not redder than the others but I'm wondering how long the potential for infection exists post-op? I imagne it's from my clothes rubbing against it but wanted to see if anybody else experienced a similar situation.

How long did it take you to completey stop worrying about the incision areas?

Thanks!!!

My incisions were all better no irritation no swelling after two weeks. The only one that still hurt was my port site and it stopped after four weeks.

I would call the Dr. just to be safe. How do your scars from other things normally heal? If they take longer as well, then it makes since this would take longer as well. Good luck!

This is my first major scar so it's hard for me to compare it to a small rollerblading incident where I skinned my elbow :o

I have my first fill on Sunday so I'll ask them about it when I see them. I'm not too concerned because I'm wearing pants that are still a little snug on me. I couldn't stand the bagginess of my clothes so I invested in several pairs of pants for the office (2 sizes smaller, YAY!) and the waistband touches the incisions during my bus ride to and from work and at my desk all day. Walking around is fine but I'm more sedentary during the work day... I guess that's another bonus for walking!

Oh, If your pants are rubbing them that makes sense too. Grats on 2 sizes smaller. I know how wonderful that feels!!

My jeans after 6 wks rubbed a litte infection into the front one. I thought it felt a little hot. I squeezed it and pus came out. I put hydrogen peroxide on it for two days and after about three days it was fine.

They are now getiing ITCHY> but that is the weather changing and dry skin setting in. If it is super bothersome call the doc. it may just be a little irritation that will go away.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
