Surgery 5-13, so excited- anyone else scheduled for May 13th?

Recommended Posts

So today I had my last nutrition visit (my ins requires 3 month diet) and also my last shrink visit. They said everything looked great and I should be ready to submit to ins which could take about 2 weeks. So right now I'm tentatively set for May 13 and I'm so excited. Anyone else scheduled for May 13th?

Hi, I'm scheduled for 5.01.13 I started my preop diet 04.09.13. Can't believe I have a weEk behind me.

Preop diet: 2 Protein shakes at Breakfast, lunch with 2 1-2 oz Protein snack and for dinner is 6 oz lean meat w/cup of green veggies. I have to say this has been very difficult for me. I am doing better now, but those first 3 days were a killer for me. As hard as it is I am truly grateful for having to do it. This has taught me how much I need to deal with emotionally and how I need to change food from being a friend to being a source of nutrition. I never realized how much I used food as a sedation substance. I lived off of junk food, and actually think I've been addicted to their additives.

I do not want to be a prisoner to food and this is the first step in the process of freeing myself from prison. I'm so excited about upcoming surgery and I know in my heart I'm on my way. I realize there will be pain, trials, learning experiences and major changes in my relationship with food. BRING IT ON!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
