Pressure and ache on lower left tummy - diverticulitis?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved over 2 years ago and it has been amazing for me. About a week ago I think I ate too much and am experiencing something I've never felt before. I wouldn't call it pain, but I have a very uncomfortable "pressure" on my left side below my navel. It feels kind of like gas but more achey than that. After it first happened last week I went on a liquid diet for a couple days and after it didn't get better, went to the doc. It sounded like a classic case of Diverticulitis and I got some antibiotics.

After a few days I started feeling better, then last night I had a few sushi rolls and walnuts and it kicked back up again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Not me. If I overeat, I still feel like I'm gonna slime. And I get heartburn. It never aches that low. I agree it sounds like something else. I know nuts are a big no-no for Diverticulitis.

How are your bowel movements? How is your Fiber intake? Do you remember what you ate before it happened the first time?

I have had similar aches, and it turned out to be gas. I was having regular bowel movements, but during that time period I noticed my stools were rather dry and hard (they did come out, but reminded me of rabbit poops!). A lot of the pain was from pressure and gas build up.

What antibiotics were you given? Have you had any diarrhea since then?

Sounds like your having a diverticulitis episode. Don't eat any nuts popcorn etc.. The dr can verify that with a ct scan.

(Sorry I am not a vet but was lurking and have ha an episode and know the discomfort it can cause)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
