Surgery is exactly 1 month away - I would like advice

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for the Sleeve on April 16. I went through many emotions with fear being the first. Well I am past the fear and just now very ready and excited to get it over with now. I would love to get advice from all of you who have already gone through this. I will take any advice on what to do to make my recovery easier. Tips and tricks on any foods that may have helped or harmed your recovery during the first six weeks. Advise on how to avoide loose skin. Anything you would like to share is welcome.

Thank you all!

That's exactly how I was. Just wanted to get over with already. Walk walk walk the gas pains hurt ! I was up and walking every 30 minutes. Take your meds when in pain. And rest . You will do great . Good luck and keep us informed on how your surgery goes .

Thank you so much. I'm trying to get as much info as possible to avoid any issues that others may have encountered. It helps so much to listen to the advice that others can give. I am almost exactly your starting body weight and BMI, so I will continue to read your post to check your progress.

I ordered and read Dr. Alvarez' book about the gastric sleeve... he says two things you can do to prepare for the surgery is 1) do cardio type activities pre-op, even just walking every day will help your heart through surgery; and 2) blow up a balloon 10 to 20 times each day to keep your lungs working well for surgery. Seems pretty easy to do these and could help you alot in your recovery.

My surgery is in July so have many of the same questions! Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
