Looking for a mentor/buddy in Raleigh, NC

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am seriously considering lapband to sleeve revision surgery with Dr. Yoo at Duke. I could really use a local mentor/buddy to talk to about the sleeve or band to sleeve revision.

Thanks!

Hey there.. I am not in Raleigh but I am in south hill, va. I have decided to do the sleeve but both of my insurances have denied me so I am going to have it done in mexico. I have been researching the sleeve and doctors for about a yr now. Its scarey yet when you read the post in some of the forums you get uplifted. I wish you best of luck with your decision..

Karen,

Thank you very much for the message. I appreciate it. Yes, some of the messages are uplifting and give me hope that this surgery will succeed even though the band failed.

Best wishes on your surgery. When are you having it?

You know how things go with families. This is low on the totem pole. I had to get my son deployed in feb, foster child needs special needs met aka testing for march, Husband is deploying in April and leaves country in May,, so I am looking to save up and have it done in july or early aug. That way my husband will come home to a thinner wife..LOL hmm hope he doesnt recognize me .. wouldnt that be cool??

Good luck on the private route. I have jumped thru insurance hoops 2 times before and this time i had 2 insurances both private thru husbands jobs and they both denied after spending a yr making me do diets and tests.. grrr. This time I will do it my way. I have had friends who did the band who had issues Makes me glad i didnt get it done i guess. You will have better luck with the sleeve I am sure. less care and more of a tool you can work with. Keep in touch let me know when u get yours done.

:D Karen

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
