Sore Knee hindering exercise

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I"m sort of bummed out here. For the last week or so, my knee has been really sore. I'm not sure what I've done, or when or how. All I know is, I'm very sore and swollen. I can walk and stand but it hurts to engage my knee. For a while last week while I walked, my knee clicked. I alternated ice and heat therapy last week and it seemed to help a bit, but during the last two day preparing for Thankgiving, I aggravated it.

I have a doctor appt on the 8th of Dec, which is only about two weeks away, but I'm seriously bummed because I want to work out, but I don't want to do further damage to my knee.

I know in my head I need to take care of my knee and I will, but man, it makes me crazy not to be able to exercise (I never in my life thought I would utter those words). Well, I'll just sit to day and treat my knee and see how I feel over the next couple days.

I'm just venting, I know what I need to do, I just needed a little pity party.

On the plus side, I'm still losing weight, so all is not lost.

Whew.... I feel better.

Thanks for listening.

This, especially the clicking, sounds like Runner's knee (AKA femoral patellar syndrome) where the femur bone and the knee rub against each other due to weird bone angle, etc.

I am in the middle of physical therapy (to strengthen my muscles to overcome this tendency) for this and it has helped tremendously. I didn't exercise for a couple of weeks then I was cleared for elliptical or biking. I started physical therapy mid-October and yesterday I did a 5k.

This is very treatable. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your Knee, but, been there, done it... It's a real drag!

I shot both my knees doing aerobics. Your knees are like shocks. Sometimes after a while they were out like mine did. Hopefully you are not in the same boat. I'm no Dr., but this is what I've done to get by and it works. I do the OSTEO-BI-FLEX. about 3 a day. "it can take a couple of weeks before it really kicks in" I also drink Muscle Milk, if you have a tear in your tissues anywear Muscle Milk starts to go to that area, and it will try to repair the area. I no it sounds nuts, It's the best kept secret out ther untill now! Protien is 25g, calories195 per 8 ounce shake.T hat's in the "Light". So in case you didn't realise it, it is great for us Bandsters. The thing about the Milk,

it actually is very good for you. Go on ebay and type in muscle milk light, and watch it come up. It's delecious to, and a lot of flavors. It's a powder, and you mix it with Water. good luck with the knee. get back if you have to. Shirley.. P.S. On my post op visit, I had a knee x rayed.

They have been talking replacement on these knees for a couple of years now. So I no they soon will replace tha right one. And I still get around

because I take what I said, if not I would be in a chair..

You have to listen to your body, and rest your knee or it'll take much much longer to get better or you'll do serious injury. What about swimming? Its a pain because its a pretty inconvenient form of exercise (well it is for me) but it will serve the purpose for the short term.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
