Hello every one. My name is Ohood. I am 30 and new at this, so I don’t know what to do.

I had my surgery 11 days ago. I don’t know exactly how I feel, sometimes I am happy that I did it, other times I feel sorry. I feel like I won’t be normal again. I wake up some times full of energy, other times I feel so tried that I just want to stay in my bed.it hurts a lot when I try to drink anything , and I am hungry all the time. I thought that after the surgery I am not supposed to feel hungry. Maybe it’s just in my head, I really don’t know.

I lost 5 kilos so far, but I am not happy about it. Sometimes I feel like I am supposed to lose more. Sometimes I say it’s better to lose the weight slowly. I don’t know what I want.

I did lots of research before taking the decision of doing it. I read a lot, and I truly thought that I was prepared for what will happen after the surgery, but I don’t think I was.

Is what I feeling normal? What so strange about the whole thing is that my sister did it as well in the same day. However, she not going through the things I am experiencing these days.

I feel like I won’t be normal again.

You will have to find a new normal probably more than once. I have lost 110 pounds and my new normal is great. Take the adjustments as they come. Make it easy on yourself, don't worry.

At this early stage, the hunger you are feeling could be irritation. Are you on any medications for gas (prevacid)? It can help with the hunger-type feelings.

Your body is healing, and you are going to get exhausted. For me, I didn't really feel tired until week 3 when I went back to work. At that point, I was falling asleep watching the 6 o'clock news and going to bed at 8 p.m. Normally, I'd be up until midnight or later. It did get better.

Try not to compare yourself to your sister or anyone else. What you are feeling is normal.

Eleven days from surgery you are still very swollen and still have a lot of healing going on... Try and take lots of sips all day long... Try warm liquids see if it helps...maybe flavored water or Gatorade.

The emotional part is normal. It takes time to adjust but I promise you after a few months things will start to feel more positive.

Hang in there, stay strong and continue to come here for support if you are feeling low!

Hugs to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
