Eat or drink protein?

Recommended Posts

ok, my surgeon says he would rather me eat my Protein instead of drink it, says Protein Shakes are "empty calories'! But there is no way I can eat enough to get 60+ gr of protein in a day! I usually get 40-50 without a shake! Has anyone else been able to do it without shakes? ?

My nutritionist ad surgeon disagree on this as well. My doctor wants us off Liquid Protein by six months. The dietician wants us at six months to start tapering off and be completely off at one year.

I do shakes on occasion. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes late evening if I am short on Protein for the day. Dont see how it matters as long as you are staying within your dietary requirements.

I guess it also depends on the protein...it should be the whey isolate protein...I don't know how I would be able to get in all of my Protein by food versus the shakes or drinks since they are so packed with protein plus it counts as a liquid....

My surgeon was against the drinks/shakes as well. He never pushed to take in a certain amount of Protein daily either. He wanted protein to be eaten first when i did eat. I haven't had a Protein Drink at all since surgery and I'm 3 months out!!

I can't get all my Protein in either so I've started drinking a 'pure protein' shake (35 grams protein, 170 calories) each afternoon around 3pm. I'm hoping the increase in protein will help my weight loss go quicker. It does bring my calories up to 800 so we'll see...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
