Hi There! I am 32 years old and have struggled with my weight off and on through childhood and solid for the past 12 years. I struggle with overeating. Often times I feel like a bulimic without throwing up. I do binge. My BMI is 37 and I am not sure if surgery is my best route, and not sure if my insurance will cover it. All I know is that I need to be healthy and I would like something to aid me, something to help me stop eating! :omg:

Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome.

Welcome to Bandland! It's a great place for information. Whether it be asking questions or just looking through alot of the older posts. I am 33 and was just currently banded about a month ago. I took an entire year to research the band and fiqure out what i wanted to do. I even dieted the entire year and gained 14 pounds. That was my kick in the butt. I couldn't do it alone. I had been heavy since i was 5, and struggled all my life. I wanted to learn to be healthy and by me having the band I knew I would have to do it. Thats where it came for me. Anything you want info on for this surgery is out there, but it doesn't make the decision for you. Good luck

Hi need2bhealthy - Welcome to LBT. If you're looking for information on the lapband or support, you've definitely come to the right place. Whilst we can't tell you if the band is right for you, I can tell you it's been the right choice for me. I'm feeling better about my healthy and life with every passing day.

It's not necessarily an easy road (especially with all the hoops the US insurance companies make you jump through), but it's definitely worth it, in my opinion.

Good luck in your search. I hope you find the good health you're looking for.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
