can you pull your staples?

Recommended Posts

Last night, in the middle of the night, my dogs were fighting in bed next to my head. I woke up in panic from a dead sleep, and instinctively picked up one of my dogs (28 lbs) and pulled her over to the other side of me. Immediately afterwards, I started having pain in my stomach and where my largest incision is (which is almost healed). I laid still for about 45 minutes hoping it would go away - it didn't, so I took some pain medication. I still didn't sleep and couldn't get comfortable with the pain. This morning, the stomach pain seems to be gone, but where the incision is is really hurting - first time ever.

Could I have done some damage or pulled out staples? how would I know?

I'm 3 weeks post op and have been doing fabulous until now.

If it keeps up contact your doctor. Better safe than sorry. Earlier this week (I would of been 2 1/2 weeks post op) my three year old grandson was climbing into his car seat cause he knows I can't lift him yet. He started to fall backwards and I caught him. I felt a pull and my largest incision started to hurt. it bothered me that day and was a little sore the next day. Now it is fine but I sure was concerned that i had done something to it. He weighs 42#. Hopefully you will be feeling good again soon.

Thanks CBD - that helps - I will give it a day or 2!

So sorry you are having pain. I've been picking up my granddaughter since I came home from the hospital ( she's 22lbs) and on Wednesday I cleaned out my garage. Lifting boxes half the day. I was 3 weeks out that day. Didn't even feel a twinge. I'm surprised you would have pain that far out. I would call the drs office and talk to them.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
