Hi! I am new. I am almost 3 months into my 6 month requirement for surgery. I am doing my best to make healthy changes and learn all I can so that I can be successful with this tool. I am frustrated because I keep trying plain greek yogurt and I hate it! My Nut says that they prefer us to get our Protein in soft foods like pudding and yogurt rather than the drinks. I have tried to put Toroni syrups in. I tollerated the strawberry. I tried putting in PB2, choc. PB2, and even the caramel Torani. And I still hated it. Between that and struggling to find a Protein Shake mixture that I like, I am feeling a little discouraged. I did fall in love with the Mio in my Water. That is going a long way to helping me give up Coke! Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? Does it have to be Greek Yogurt? I tried Chobani and Oikios. I have not tried the Fage yet.

Greek yogurt has more Proteins than other yogurts, but it doesn't have to be plain I wouldn't think. I wasn't a big fan of it either, but got used to it, now I don't mind it. Yoplait makes some non fruit flavors like honey vanilla and key lime in their greek yogurts that are pretty good. They might be a bit more palatable. I also recommend thePremier shakes that are already mixed. You can get them from Sams or costco. I really am not a fan of shakes and powders in general, but the Premiers are not super sweet and go down really nice. You just have to keep experimenting.

Try thinning it with Water, adding Splenda to sweeten to taste, and adding fruit. I use frozen berries in the summer. I thaw them in the microwave, add Splenda to sweeten them, then stir them in my yogurt.

In the winter, instead of fruit, I add some canned pumpkin and vanilla and cinnamon. I use 1 cup Fage 0, 1/4 cup pumpkin, 1/4 cup Splenda, 1/4 cup Water, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

I also like to make it into a shake: Blend greek yogurt, splash of orange juice, Splenda to taste (I use about 1/4 cup), a couple of frozen strawberries, and water. When I first started drinking it, I used 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/8 cup water. Now, almost two years out, I use 1 cup yogurt and 1/8 cup water.

You can also make a savory dip. Use greek yogurt and mix with ranch dressing mix. Thin with a little water if it's too thick.

As the others have said Greek yogurt has much more Protein than regular yogurt... I think Fage is the best, try Fage 2% with half a banana cut into small cubes its really good.

The main benefit of the greek yogurt over regular yogurt is the lower carbs as well as a small increase in Protein. As others have said it doesn't need to be plain greek yogurt the flavored ones are just as good you just have to keep track of the carbs because some of the flavored ones will have a lot more carbs, also remember that the ones with the chunks of fruit in them could be a problem post op when your aloud full liquids because the fruit chunks won't be aloud. You said you like MIO in your Water, you might want to try adding that to your greek yogurt remember mio can be added to anything not just water to add a little taste. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have a Smith's grocery store where I live an I have found the ONLY Greek yogurt I can tolerate is the store brand Kroger Greek Light, they have plain, vanilla and flavored with small chunks of fruit in it. It's lower in sugar than alot out there. I have tried all the "name brands" and can't stand them. Good luck in your search

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
