i went to the first steps seminar with my insurance this morning. I have Kaiser, and I went in Sacramento. I feel like the presenter was really judemental about being overweight and there were a lot of "trigger words" used in the presentation. On the whole, most of the attendees were middleaged women with about 100-150 lbs to loose, a few with more or less and just a handful of men. Two people dominated the conversation with stupid questions about THEIR specific health concerns, of course the presenter told us that this wasnt the forum at the begining...

I feel like this is a screening out tool used by Kaiser to prevent people from taking the next step!! I am going to attend the "Meeting with the Surgeon" however I feel like Kaiser takes too long. Honeslty the 5-8K it costs in Mexico might be worth my time and energy dealing with the health care system.

I was told that my BMI is LOW by my reffering doctor, because its is 40 and I had a baby in the last year, even though the criteria state your highest BMI within the last 12 months... I dont have any co-morbidities (yet) but I feel like Mexico maybe the best use of my time and energy. Am I making excuses? I could probably TEACH the weight loss classes and nutritional programing seminar I have attended at Kaiser. The calibur of educator is alright, but I am so uncomfortable in the group setting, i shut down. UGH... I am debating the money vs. quality of my life over the next year. Any advice from those before me? Thanks in advance...

Are you patient enough? If it would be covered on my insurance I might jump through the hoops but I think it might be worth the money to to mexico to avoid all the bs.

I know I'm ready for a change i can't wait i got my first nutritionists appt. Jan 31 at 1 pm. I have to pay $75 tho cause my insurance doesn't pay for there nutritionists at dr. Basses office in ft. Myers FL.. But oh well only 3 appt. At $75 each ain't so bad everything else is covered by my insurance. And they told me i was ok as long as my bmi didn't go under 35, so I'm clear to lose another 8 lbs that's all.

It's worth it.

My visits are 150 each at one because my pre op classes and Nut visits are not covered I've been in the program 7months. Prepared me on that level.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
