13 Days Post Op: Still Vomiting & Heartburn is Kiong Me!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I've come to terms with the fact that even though my incisions are all healed, that my new stomach is obviously not!!! Still trying to get as much Fluid as I can down.. (But its still not enough)!! And any type of Soups that I try to consume come right back up!!! Maybe it's just going to take my stomach a little longer to heal than usual!!! I'm also suffering from SEVERE heartburn that has my chest on fire all day, but I can't take the pills that the doc prescribed for acid in the stomach cuz I'll throw the pill right back up.. Or feel like I want to vomit for hours after!!!! Tried tums chewables today, and they came right back up too!!!! Basically just going with the motions and praying that God heals me from this misery soon.. Other than that I'm doing ok.. Minimal to no pain in my incisions, vitals are great, no infections, blood pressure is perfect.. I just can't put any food down my throat to this point.. & the heartburn is a killer!!!! Please Keep me in prayer!!!!

Vivi

so sorry to hear about your pain. the first/second month is tough. no way around it. still on prilosec four months out. take it one day, one minute at a time. you made the right decision and your body will figure out what is going on soon. call your doctor/nurse with any questions. i should of asked for help sooner: had heartburn/pain for over a month before i realized i just needed a prescription to help me. you do not need to "tough" it out. trust yourself and keep the faith. you will make it and be so happy with where you end up. ;)

Thanks so much for your kind words!!! I am roughing it out believe me!!!! But the heartburn & not being able to get anything down except liquids is killing me!!!! I can't even take those stomach pills!!!! I don't see the surgeon again until the 15th, & Lord knows I can't wait to get in there to lay it all out for him!!!! I can't keep living like this!!!!! No Way!!!!

You should call the surgeon and let him know ASAP. It is important they may want to see you. You do not want to keep throwing up it is not good for the stomach especially this soon after surgery. Good luck by definetly call the surgeon like yesterday.

^ I agree- call your surgeon. All the vomitting bouts could slow or even pause the healing time your stomach needs. Additionally, you are missing valuable liquids, foods, Vitamins, etc. the last thing you want is to be dehydrated- trust me :)

Your stomach is healing it is swollen and with the stomach healing you could get a leak if you continue to have the heaves retching and actual vomitting. I only had two episodes so I did not have your situation. But when I went for my first visit my surgeon was so upset I did not call and tell him about the vomitting he said that he needs to know those things. They need to do everything to prevent that. So that's why I am trying to stress the importance of calling the surgeon. Good luck to you.

From what I've read from countless others here on this board you might have a stricture that needs to be dialated. It can't hurt to seek medical attention now rather than waiting until the 15th. Perhaps they can give you IV meds to stop that acid buildup and get you fully hydrated and some nutrition. You have to be your own best advocate concerning your health, better to be safe than sorry!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
