PRotein Drinks/ Triggers for Migraine Sufferers ?

Recommended Posts

Ok i have been looking into different Protein Drinks for my surgery in December. I have chronic Migraines . For those who have migraines and have have triggers from MSG do any of the Protein powders set you off ? I noticed some of them or alot of them actually have MSG under different names . And whey protein and Soy protein in general usually has MSG in them .

SO does anyone have any problems with these ? If so what do you use ?

Thanks

Mindy

I use Protein powder from www.unjury.com. The ingredients are as follows:

Unflavored: whey Protein isolate, soy lecithin.

chocolate: Whey protein isolate, fructose, natural and artificial flavors, citric acid, soy lecithin, acesulfame, aspartame, FD7C red #40, FD&C yellow #6.

I don't know if those ingredients are names for MSG or not, Im not sensitive to MSG. I really like these protein powders though, and if the ingredients are acceptable to you, Id recommend them.

Aspartame is a HUGE no no for me too w/my Migraines, im better off with Sugar . Anything with Why protein is likely to have it . I started off trying to see what powders didnt have artifical sweetners in it ( That's a feat in itself) then I noticed they started having MSG In them too .

OR COULD have MSG . The problem is MSG Is in EVERYTHING and on labels under about 20 names .

Here is a link http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html just for an FYI . But here are a few names that MSG is often in or create MSG during the process of making these and this is my problem with the Protein as you will see lol :

Carrageenan Maltodextrin Malt extract Natural pork flavoring Citric acid Malt flavoring Bouillon and broth Natural chicken flavoring Soy protein isolate Natural beef flavoring Ultra-pasteurized Soy sauce Stock Barley malt Soy sauce extract Whey protein concentrate Pectin Soy protein Whey protein Protease Soy protein concentrate Whey protein isolate Protease enzymes Anything protein fortified Flavors(s) & Flavoring(s) Anything enzyme modified Anything fermented Natural flavor(s)

& flavoring(s) Enzymes anything Seasonings

(the word "seasonings")

The substitutes for sugar are some of the worst ingredients on the planet!

Nutrasweet, aspartame, splenda, etc are all proven to be very bad for you - most are a derivative of sacharin, -remember from the 70s when saccharin was removed from products? They got around it.

Yet in our culture they're used in everything. Especially those diet

drinks.

I cannot tolerate them at all. Headaches, muscle pain, nausea.

Regular suger is much better.

So I have a baaaad time with the Protein drinks. Most are loaded with

this stuff.

I found one that is tolerable and rather good. Its a powder.

It is Wild Oats "Whey to Go" I think is the name . vanilla.

Yes the sweetners kill me . My Migraines are so bad after I eat some of those things. Where do you get the whey to go at ?

I would love to try some .

Thanks

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
