Rate the pain post op 1-10.. And why?

My surgeon had me on pain-meds for first two days, so surgery pain was 0 for me. There was a mild soreness and a sort of *tingling* in my biggest incision - a bit unpleasant when you have nothing else to divert your mind with LOL! The worst for me was the gas pain that hit immly when they took me off pain meds on 2nd day. I had the WORST bout of shoulder/arm pain for almost 20 mins! But it passed quickly after that point I havent had any pain after that.

I thank God everyday for the overall painless and speedy recovery! :)

Right after surgery I had mild shoulder pain and chest heaviness, which was from gas. It went away pretty quickly. I never really had any "pain". I felt soreness-- the kind of soreness if you're out of shape and exercise hard and the next day your abs are sore. Or the kind of soreness from coughing during a bad cold.

The only truly truly miserable thing I experienced was nausea right after surgery, which lasted a few hours until they found the right combination of drugs to treat it.

So all in all, I rate my pain a 1 or 2. I know I'm very lucky.

I was sleeved 12/21. I had no surgery site pain and no gas pain. I took no pain mess at all.

See, I always thought I tolerated pain well, but compared to what I'm reading, I'm a wimp! My pain post op was 8-9. I was begging for drugs. On meds I was around a 4-5 and when it was time for another dose, I was around a 7. Now today, three days post op, I'm close to a 5 when the meds wear off and around a 2-3 with drugs. It still kills to get up and down from a seated position, and I can't bend over or stretch. I get a terrible burning sensation at the incision sites, as well as a deeper, more gut wrenching pain around the area where the drain was (I'm assuming this is where the doc pulled my stomach out as well). I'm feeling better today than any other day, so I'm hoping that tomorrow will be even better and I'll continue to recover quickly. I can't wait to sleep on my side again!

1 for pain. 2 for gas in shoulders. Walk often and this helps with gas. Oh - I am a total baby, wussy, and avoid pain at all costs. VSG for me was outpatient surgery. Went home same night to sleep in my own bed thankfully. Only took pain meds once and that was to sleep on day 2 or 3 since I got my days/nights mixed up.

No regrets, I love my sleeve.

PS - now, everyone is different. One of my SoCal sleeve sisters woke up screaming according to her. She said she would do it again even knowing the discomfort level, which was managed by pain meds.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
