Feeling terrible! What's going on?

Recommended Posts

Before I advanced to soft and was on full liquid, I did great! No nausea, vomiting or pain. Two days before Thanksgiving, I was advanced to soft. I have been having a terrible time of it. I've gone back and forth between liquid/soft and no help. I asked my surgeon last week and I told him about it and this feeling like a rock was sitting under my ribs. He said that the pain was from the swelling from the vomiting and to slow down and take smaller bites. I have done my best, but last night I was so sick. It carried over to today and all day I've felt aweful. An acid-like burning which nothing has fixed. I've tried Tums, Pepto and Mylanta. I feel so full. Everything I ate today (3 small bites of chopped beef and 4 small sips of soup) has come back up. I'm dry heaving so much too. I've given my sleeve a break for dinner and am not eating. Is it the swelling making me feel so aweful?? Anyone else with something similar????

I transition from liquid to puree and then to soft. Maybe you need to work up to soft a bit more? You could try doing puree so it's a bit more substantial than full liquids, but not quite yet as dense as soft foods.

Puree first. Beef would not be the best choice to consume I am 15 weeks out and don't eat beef. Soft meats, tuna, canned meats, canned fish and cottage cheese, yogurt are your best bets.

Try not to have Soup and solid at the same meal, eat either soup or have your pureed foods. Eat very small 1/4 teaspoons at a time and eat slow. Measure out your 2 ounce serving at each sitting. Good Luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
