Kind of surreal feeling..

Recommended Posts

So, my surgery is all set for tomorrow. Everything is done, my bag is packed, my mom took off work, my time is scheduled, I've been on the pre-op liquid diet but as I sit here in bed with my tummy grumbling I can't help but feel that this is all some sort of dream. It's weird, I just can't wrap my head around my whole new life starting tomorrow. I'm excited as all heck but it just doesn't seem like its really soaked in yet. I still feel like something is going to go wrong even though throughout this whole process everything has been picture perfect. Am I crazy? Do other people feel this way?

I felt the exact same way, only not much excitement. It is really a testament to how this really IS major surgery. But fortunately serious complications are rare and vsg is becoming a well established procedure. Just baby yourself and trust your doctors and nurses. It will go by so fast!!!

Good luck tomorrow! Can't wait to here how you are doing! I'm sure everything will be just fine, and it sounds like you are having very normal feelings about such a big change.

Just wait until you wake up in recovery and get into your cozy hospital bed (which, btw, you should not stay in much because you need to walk, walk walk)! Now THAT is a surreal feeling, but also a type of rebirth. It is an amazing time to really study your life and the opportunity to make it over into something new. Very cool thing.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
