Hi All,

I am getting sleeved on 12/17/2012 and I've been watching all the vsg journals on youtube and someone mentioned the Gas X strips helping wtih all of the gas after surgery. I bought some but I'm wondering if they will let me have it. It sounds like they don't really want you to drink or eat anything right after surgery, but I'm kind of nervous about this gas pain I've been hearing about. Just not knowing what to expect. Thanks in advance for your input:-)

i believe the gas pain after surgery is do to them inserting air into the body cavity. that is painful and moving around and walking helps.. gas x helps with the gas in your belly not really painful bit annoying.. at least thats my experience all in all you'll be fine..

I wrote in my blog about this topic-yes you need to bring them. In fact, if you are in a group, many forget and you can name your price in the recovery room haha....kidding!

Gas strips are more important than clean underwear...you need to walk a lot after surgery to alleviate clots but its pretty darn hard when you have incredible gas pain in your back, chest, tummy, shoulders....the nurses would come around and tap us on the back to help move some of it. Also, I reccomend getting a light massage (no adjustments) a few days after to help. You will have gas pain for at least a week...bring the strips.

What Frank says is right, the GAS that is inserted into your abdomen is NOT affected by GASX strips, you simply have to give it time, in fact only a few hours after surgery ALL the gas that was used (CO2 BTW) is GONE and what you are left with is nerves running through the abdomen that have been stretched and irritated and causing "pain" sensations in various areas, neck, back, elbow, etc. And walking DOES help this as it just helps settle everything and gets it back to where it should be sooner. It also takes your mind off of the pain.

Post surgery normal stomach gas caused by everything from reactions to drinks and food to swallowing air CAN be helped by GASX strips. Our poor little tummy is swollen nearly shut and ANY gas at all makes it ache. The strips dissolve on the tongue and really should not count as "anything to eat or drink".

Again, GASX does NOT help alleviate surgical "gas pains" just plain old stomach gas aches.

Gas X strips wouldn't be considered as eating or drinking since they dissolve on the tongue.

I'm taking mine. Even if it is just for stomach gas, I've had plenty of that since I started on this bariatric diet and why add to what already hurts when you don't have to?

The gas used is surgery is CO2 (aka carbon dioxide), we exhale CO2 that's why they use it. The gas exchange happens at the cellular level and we exhale the excess gas out after surgery. Gas in your digestive tract is much different and that's the type of gas gasx will help. It doesn't hurt to take them, however if you do have gas pain in your shoulders from the CO2 gas x won't help, walking and moving around will oh and of course exhaling (which I certainly hope you'll be doing [emoji6])

Don't be too nervous about the gas pains, it affects everyone differently, I had virtually no gas pain but I'm almost two weeks out and still have terrible pain from my main incision. Everyone is different.
