Jacqui, how did you start the running? Did you start with walking? or? That's what I envision myself doing with my dog.

Kat.

I didn't see the Oprah show but i have seen a few research articles about how we are at risk or replacing one addiction with another. For the first year after banding I didn't drink any alcohol because I didn't want to waste calories. Then I went through a few months of bad drinking on my own where I felt very alone. Now I've pulled myself together and am back at goal weight and am verging on anorexia to stay at goal weight. It is one addiction or another

I LOVE OPRAH! She can do no wrong. I give her I lot of credit for her weight loss success - she obviously works hard at diet and exercise. If you watch just a few of her shows, you'll soon get hooked like me.

I saw that show and thought it was well worth watching. A great show. I definately have an addictive personality. I've been hooked on cigarettes and alchohol and kicked both bad habits. Now I'm fat. food definately feels like an addiction to me. Believe me, it's been pretty darn hard to keep my cotton-picking hands away from my kid's halloween candy up to now. (I vow not to take anymore). But why the hell do I keep thinking about that candy? What the hell is my problem? - geez I'm not 10 yrs old. I definately can understand that people do pick up new addictions to replace old ones. I hope I develop an obsession with working out, but that will never happen.

The thing with the gastric bypass is the alchohal gets into the blood stream much faster and the person gets drunk faster. This situation can lead to big trouble with some people.

I'm planning to watch the Discovery Channel's "You on a Diet" with Dr Oz on Fri Nov 3rd. He's a regular guest on Oprah. He's excellent too.

Good luck y'all!

Sweet Sue

Man, I'm kinda sorry I missed this episode.

I have to say that I am totally addicted to working out. Now, a lot of people would say this is a good thing, and I agree to a point. But I fully admit to being rather obsessive about it and sometimes that worries me. I dont really want to get TOO obsessed with my body image as thats not healthy either.

I dunno, I think there definitely is some connection between overweight people and addictive tendencies. I know for a fact that I can be borderline compulsive.

Oh well, at least its a healthy addiction for now. Hopefully I can come to peace with it once Im at goal weight and all.

I'm addicted to shopping. Saying that - I have NEVER been a shopper - mainly because I hated the way everything looked on me. From shoes to pants to shirts. Now I go all the time. I don't always buy - usually browse and try on and wait for it to go on sale. It took the place of food - especially shoes. I don't know what is wrong with me? I'm serious. It is getting expensive.

Secondly - I've started to love working out too. I used to be a total Vegetable. The only thing that would get me to run is if something was chasing me. To Swim - if I drove my car into a lake...it is healtheir than shopping, but still second.

LOL, I'm totally with you on the shopping thing as well. Trying on clothes was never so much fun before. I can walk away now unless its something I absolutely love, but coming down from a size 40 waist to a size 32 feels awesome.

Its sort of neccesary as all my old clothes look super big now. But I also always told myself that if you are going to deny yourself the pleasures of bad foods that I used to love, I will indulge myself a bit with other things.

Your progress pics are amazing BTW, you look great! I gotta put some up.

Thanks Bsides...yes you need to post some progress pictures. :-)

I had to start shopping too for new clothes. My pants had so many darts in them I was beginning to look like an equestrian - not pretty. I refused to buy suspenders! I ended up buying dresses - they are easier to tailor to fit. Although I don't think that'd be a good option for you unless you are RuPaul.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
