Gastric Band Revision To A Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I had a gastric band 7 years ago that was unsuccessful and now my surgeon has suggested a gastric sleeve revision. I am scheduled for surgery on the 19th but I am apprehensive about whether or not it will work. Is there anyone that has gone from a band to a sleeve. If so how did you do and what was the difference.

gone from a band to a sleeve?

Kristi64

there are many many lapbanders on this forum that changed to the sleeeve do to multiple problems with their band

hopefully they will come out of the woodwork with their helpful comments

i was never banded - i luckily chose the sleeve with successful surgery & results 10 1/2 months ago

I understand you being nervous, common issue/concern- you will be happy with the results of the sleeve - do i look like the type of person that would lie to you??? ;)

after WLS, you will have a door open to a new wonderful, healthier world :)

good luck

speedy recovery

I'm a revision. The sleeve is much, much better than the band. With the band there were so many foods I couldn't eat, chicken, turkey, salad, veggies.... I was always slimming & vomiting. No problems at all with the sleeve. I'm almost to goal and pray I can keep it off but am so happy to have the band out. What a waste of time & money. There's a section on this site for revisions. Check the posts out there. Good luck & congrats.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
