Im Approved For My Sleeve! Surgery Scheduled For 1-2-13!

Recommended Posts

Yeah! I am estatic that my insurance approved my surgery this week. I can not wait to start my new year off with a bang!

I have been contimplating and researching gastric surgery for several years now. Before I decided on the sleeve, I was considering the bypass. But was really nervous about the long term complications ( potential complications)

I am an office manager for a neurology office, and learning over the past 5 or 6 years how many gastric bypass patients end up seeing neurologists due to Vitamin defficiancies, especially vit B. That changed my mind and lead me to more research and I discovered the sleeve.

I told myself, If I can not get my weight under control by the time I was 40, I will be 39 this month, then I was doing it.. I was going to have WLS, and more than likely, it would be the sleeve.

Well, this past November, 2011, My mom had a major surgery, AAA Repair/Bypass. She struggled for 6 months to recover from this surgery, that eventually took her life this May. She was only 66. Knowing that ultimately, had she made better life choices, she probably would have never been in that situation, at least not at 65, to have to ever have that surgery to begin with. I decided immediately after her surgery, I was going to do the surgery, and not wait. I am a mother of 5 teenagers, and I would never forgive myself if something happened to take me from my family early because I made choices I could have prevented. Loosing a parent is never an easy thing, no matter how old you are, but I know I want to be around for a very very long time for my children, and feel good in this life, and eventually enjoy grand children too for a very long time!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
